Ranking Your Portfolio Against a Competitor (Patent Number Upload)

Instead of searching the entire database, you can now upload up to 10,000 patent numbers and have NLPatent rank just that subset according to your query. Ideal for analyzing your own portfolio in the context of a specific product, trend, or competitor.

How to Use Patent Number Upload

  1. Start with a Search

Begin by running a search in NLPatent — either with a patent number or a natural language query. One could use a keyword search, however the results will not be ranked by semantic similarity, they would be ranked by keyword hit frequency instead.

  2. Go to the Filters Panel

Open the Filters tab and scroll to the bottom to find the "Patent Number" filter.

  1. Upload Your Portfolio
  • You can:
    • Manually paste a few patent numbers into the text box, or
    • Upload a CSV file containing up to 10,000 patent numbers.
      • Tip: Use CSV for larger portfolios — it’s faster and easier.

    • Apply the Filter

Once your patent numbers appear, click “Apply Filter.”

    • For natural language/patent number queries , NLPatent will use its AI model to rank the uploaded patents by relevance.
    • For keyword-based searches, results will be sorted by keyword match frequency instead (AI won’t be used here).

In essence, This feature lets you focus the AI's attention on a specific subset of patents, enabling portfolio benchmarking, competitive analysis, or internal portfolio review with much greater control.
