NLPatent Security FAQs

Where do you host your data?

All our systems are hosted on Amazon Web Services within the United States. User and search data is never stored anywhere outside of the US at any time.

Is your data encrypted?

Yes, all information input into the NLPatent system is stored in an encrypted format, and we use TLS 1.3 to encrypt all network traffic to/from NLPatent systems.

How are passwords stored?

We store user passwords hashed and salted so that in the unlikely event of a database breach, user passwords would not be compromised.

Who has access to the database?

Only select members of the NLPatent team have access to the NLPatent database.

Do you backup your data?

Yes, we backup our database daily and store database backups for up to 30 days. After this period the backups are permanently deleted. All backups are encrypted.

Are you servers behind a firewall?

Yes, all of our non-public systems (e.g. systems that don’t need to communicate with the public internet), including the NLPatent database, are protected by a firewall within our Virtual Private Cloud. This means that no 3rd parties can connect to these systems directly.

What happens if I delete a search/project?

When you delete a search/project, all traces of that search/project are immediately removed from the NLPatent database. Historical snapshots of the data may be retained within database backups for up to 30 days, but after this period the backups are permanently deleted.

Is NLPatent GDPR compliant?

Yes, NLPatent is GDPR compliant. Our Data Protection Officer can be contacted at james@nlpatent.com for all data security/privacy queries.

Is NLPatent SOC 2 compliant?

Does NLPatent use search queries to train Machine Learning models?
