Refinement enables users to uncover more prior art- ensuring that critical information is not missed. By providing more information to our AI for refinement, one can achieve greater precision and comprehensiveness.

Providing More Information

The refinement feature in our AI-driven platform enhances your search results by incorporating additional information. To utilize this feature effectively, you need to save relevant data before refining the search. There are four primary methods to provide this information:

Save an Entire Patent

Use this method when you have a patent that closely matches your search criteria. During refinement, the AI will utilize the claims and descriptions from the saved patent to improve search results.

Save Sections

This method is ideal for emphasizing specific parts of a patent, such as a particular claim, limitation or detailed description. By focusing on these sections, you can refine your search to highlight specific aspects of interest.

Manually Adding Patents

If you already know some patents which are relevant for your search, you can add them in manually through the "Add Patent" feature. By default, the entire patent will be used for refinement. However, you can also select specific sections by navigating to the "Saved" section and highlighting the relevant parts.

Adding Non-Patent Literature

Although PDF uploads are not supported, you can refine your search by adding relevant text from non-patent literature such as academic articles or product manuals. This helps incorporate diverse sources into your search refinement.

All saved sections and articles can be accessed by clicking the "Saved" tab.By understanding and utilizing these methods, you can significantly enhance the precision and relevance of your patent searches.

Using AI To Refine Your Searches

After saving or uploading relevant information, the refine button in the top left corner will momentarily pulse. Click this button to refine your search results. Our system will then start re-ranking the results using the new information you provided.

During refinement, our AI incorporates the new information to 'learn' which results are most relevant to your patent search. The refined results will display the top matches based on the original query and the specific claims or sections that were saved.

Icons on the left-hand side will indicate how each search result has ranked up or down based on the AI’s “training”. Additionally, new results may appear based on the updated information. This feature can be used continuously to narrow down results, focusing on specific claims or detailed information.

The refine feature in NLPatent is an indispensable tool for achieving outstanding results in your patent searches. By actively providing additional information, it ensures that the search outcomes align precisely with your needs.

Questions on Privacy with Respect to the Refine Feature

Does Learning by the NLPatent AI affect the data of anyone else? 

No, it does not. When we refer to ‘training’ our AI, it means that new information prompts the AI search engine to re-evaluate the provided information and search for potential new data within our database. This process does not involve using your data to retrain the AI, ensuring data security. Additionally, any ‘training’ performed using the refine feature is specific to your search and remains isolated within your project. While we do periodically train our systems, this occurs in a controlled environment and does not involve any client data.
