NLPatent Monitor
Powered by the same LLM that runs Search, Monitor provides context-rich alerts to help you track emerging opportunities and potential risks. It highlights what matters most for your innovation strategy and complements NLPatent Search.
An overview of monitor is provided below:
Note: NLPatent Monitor works on a credit based system, to read more on how that works, read this article.
Setting up Monitor
Click Create Monitor at the top of the page.
Enter a name and (optional) description.
- Choose a monitor type:
- Natural Language* (AI-powered)
- Patent List Monitor* (AI-powered)
- Keyword Monitor
- Filter Monitor
- Office Action Monitor (Learn more)
Note: Only Natural Language and Patent List Monitors include AI features such as thresholding.
Configuring Different Monitor Types
- Patent List Monitor: Paste patent numbers or upload a CSV.
- Natural Language Monitor: Enter a natural language query. (Tips for writing good queries)
- Keyword Monitor: Build a query string. (Learn about NLPatent keyword syntax)
- Filter Monitor: Apply the desired filters (e.g., assignees, technologies).
- Office Action Monitor: Paste patent numbers or upload a CSV (Learn more)
- Click Next to continue.
Applying Filters (Optional)
Optionally, for all monitors, you can be more selective on the results by adding filters (e.g., assignee names, specific keywords).
Setting Alert Frequency + Recipients
You will receive alerts to your inbox at a frequency of your choosing, the frequency has no impact on the credits that are used (see How Do Credits Work?)
Currently you can select from:
- Weekly
- Fortnightly/Bi-weekly
- Monthly
You can add colleagues or clients to receive alerts alongside you. Alerts can be viewed by non-NLPatent users.
Choosing Alert Threshold
For AI Powered monitors, you have the power to threshold the sensitivity of the alerts, enabling you to sift through the noise. We offer 3 types of thresholds:
- High: Likely to trigger a 102/103 rejection.
- Medium: General competitive landscape.
- Low: Broad landscaping searches.
In the preview page alerts of recent results (past 3 months) are displayed for your reference to see which threshold is appropriate.
Reviewing Alerts
Clicking into an alert (whether from your email or in the Monitor Page) will show you:
- The patent(s) that triggered it
- Alert Relevance Level
- AI-generated analysis of why said patent is relevant
Final Step
Click Enable Monitor to start monitoring, the next set of results will go to your inbox on the appropriate date. If you'd like to modify anything in your monitor, you can always do so using the Edit button.
